SUBJECT: TEACHER – AVID
REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
Ensure the AVID Program is implemented in the AVID Elective class in accordance with the AVID Eleven Essentials, the AVID Curriculum/Implementation Model and the Worcester Public Schools AVID contract.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (to be included along with other responsibilities)
1. Assist with school initiatives that ensure effective AVID implementation of the AVID curriculum.
2. Provide support with the AVID Site Coordinator for professional development opportunities within the school.
3. Adheres to the AVID Curriculum Implementation Plan: WICR Strategies, Tutorials, Student Binders, Higher Order Thinking Skills and Cornell Note taking.
4. Assist with the AVID ISS, CSS, Senior and AVID Data reports and the collection and analysis of data required by the Worcester Public Schools.
5. Attend all monthly site coordinator meetings.
6. Assist in the selection process of prospective AVID Elective students with the site team and collaborate with the feeder schools both elementary and middle schools.
7. Responsible for establishing a communication plan with the AVID College tutors: retention, attendance, scheduling, and ongoing training.
8. Assist in establishing and maintaining an AVID vertical plan with elementary, middle and high schools.
9. Participate in AVID college nights, Family Awareness Nights, college field trips and selection of career/guest speakers.
10. Establish a working partnership with business volunteer in AVID monthly meetings.
11. Participate in AVID staff development trainings, as needed.
12. Monitors with the core academic teachers: AVID student progress, quarterly grades, MCAS scores, MAP scores, PSAT/SAT scores.
13. Advocates for AVID students, especially with challenges of access and equity in advanced courses: (Honors level and Advance Placement Courses and National Honor Society).
14. Communicates on a regular basis with parents and guardians regarding the progress of the AVID College Readiness Plan for their child.
15. Committed to support the AVID College Readiness Plan for all AVID Elective students.
16. Communicate the use of AVID Strategies with the academic teachers, through modeling and discussion to promote consistent implementation of AVID methodologies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS;
1. MA DESE Teacher Certification in a Content Area (preferably English)
2. SEI Endorsement
3. Bachelor’s Degree
4. Experience as an AVID Elective teacher
5. Prior AVID trainings and experience with AVID curriculum and methodologies
6. Interview by AVID District Liaison/Manager of ELL and Supplemental Support Services
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Teaching experience in the content area
2. MA DESE licensure in English 9-12
3. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
4. Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African Language
5. Experience teaching students who are English language learners
6. Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition.
6. Candidates who are licensed in another state will be considered if they qualify for the temporary license from DESE (must possess the equivalent license from another state and must have documented proof of working under that license for at least three complete school years). Candidates will need to apply for and pay for the DESE license as a condition of employment.
WORK YEAR: 185 days
SALARY: Salary scale shown is based on the candidate holding a Bachelor’s Degree with the potential to increase dependent on the highest level of education.
